Poondu Kolambu

This Poondu Kolambu is my mom's signature recipe. She learnt cooking only after I turned five.Still that my patti and attai used to help her, but now she turned as a Professional Cook thought she is working she will try more recipes of her own. In that list Poondu Kolambu comes first. When ever she cook's Poondu Kolambu its like a day started with the blessings.I personally like Poondu Kolambu to eat along with curd rice and ghee rice.





Poondu Kolambu recipe Ingredients: 

Garlic : 1/3 cup (peeled) 
Small Onion : 1/2 cup (peeled) 
Big Onion : 1 medium sized (finely chopped)  
Coconut - 1/4 cup (grated)
Tomato - 1 medium sized (finely chopped)
Chilly Powder : 1 1/2 tbsp
Garam Masala Powder : 1 1/2 tbsp
Sambar Powder : 1 tbsp
Tamarind : 1 small lemon sized
Mustard seeds : 3/4 tsp
Salt : As needed 
Oil : 3 tbsp 
Water : As needed 


Method :
1.First soak tamarind in hot water after cools down take extract and keep it aside. 
2.Get the ingredients ready. 
3.In a pan heat oil and add small onion, fry it till raw smell goes and color changes add coconut and immediately turns off flame. Cool down, transfer to the mixer and grind to a fine paste. 
4.In a pan heat oil and add mustard seeds let it splutter then add finely chopped big onion (Note: you can also use chopped small onion), peeled garlic, chopped tomato and fry till raw smell leaves. Then add grind paste and tamarind puree in it. 
5.Add chilly powder,garam masala powder,smabar powder, salt as required and give a stir.
6.Let it boil in medium flame. After it become's thick you can turn off the flame. 













Now your Poondu Kolambu is ready to serve. 


Sever hot with Rice or dosa and enjoy the taste of Poondu Kolambu. 


Notes :
       You can adjust the spice level according to your taste. 
       You can even avoid sambar powder and adjust is with chilly powder or garam masala powder.   
       If you want thin gravy, then you add water according to that.
